Restaurateurs Diana Dávila and Marcos Carbajal will bring together more than 40 chefs for the Jan. 19 event at the Ramova Theatre. Proceeds will supply families impacted by ICE with groceries from local supermercados.

LOGAN SQUARE — Diana Dávila felt disbelief and then anger when she saw what federal immigration agents were doing to immigrant families in Chicago. 

As the owner and chef of Mi Tocaya Antojeria, a beloved Mexican restaurant at 2800 W. Logan Blvd. in Logan Square, Dávila prefers to stay out of politics, to avoid bringing hostile attention to her Latina-owned business and to protect the safety and livelihood of her employees, she said.

It didn’t take long before she realized not doing anything wasn’t an option.

“This is a Mexican restaurant, and it’s making money off of my heritage,” Dávila said. “Let’s stop talking smack and figure out what we can do to help.”
